Hiking and Biking - Coeur d'Alene, ID

After the fiasco in Goldendale, WA and night in Umatilla, OR, I arrived at Coeur d'Alene, ID on the evening of 5/23/10. I did some shopping in the towns north of Coeur d'Alene before driving 90 to 97 to Arrow Point, where a modem was allegedly waiting for me to use until I slept in my van in the parking lot.

Arriving at Arrow Point.

All the modems were out with guests, so I drove south until 97 became 3.  I drove 3 until 5, and turned west.

It was too dark to continue without missing scenery, so I stopped at a campground in Hayden State Park at the south end of the lake and slept (ID-97 S/ID-97 Scenic S 51.8 mi; 1 hour 18 mins).

The next morning on 5/24/10 I showered in the cold campground showers, left $5 for the favor, and drove to 95 at Plummer, where I noticed gas for $2.74/gallon, but assumed gas would be cheaper in Coeur d'Alene, and I did not want carry the gas up the hill to Coeur d'Alene (41.0 mi – about 51 mins).

I had my noisy left brake examined at Perfection Tire for problems. There was none the mechanic could see. I had time to kill before my lunch date with Darold Cummings, so I had them flush the transmission and change the oil. When I left, the oil light stayed on more than normal, so I returned to have it checked. It was the oil sensor. I did not have time to have it repaired, so I left for lunch.

I ate with Karen and Darold Cummings at a local restaurant, then Darold took me on a tour of the town and bike race tracks in his 1995 convertible Mazda Miata. We returned just in time for me to drive to have the oil sensor changed before the shop closed. I drove to Arrow Point and checked-in to room C-2106. Here is its balcony view the next morning on 5/25/10.

I ate dinner with Darold, Karen and their sons on my birthday, 5/25/10. They suggested I visit Glacier National Park on my way to Yellowstone.
