Drove to Fallen Leaf Lake, but photo at west end did not get recorded

Did
not bother to fish East Fork of Carson River (107949, 7/14, 3:20 PM)
when other fisherman doing all the right things were only
catching
small fish.

Tried beautiful

I neglected to take the camera
with me when I hiked down to Walker Lake. Its private road
access discouraged me, but another fisherman encouraged me to fish the
streams and lakes above Walker Lake. It was a brutal and
fruitless climb to a point where the streams from two waterfalls
merged.
My knees paid the price on the return trip. Little stream access and
all of four fishable places due to the high water made it doubly
painful. |
Walker Creek had fish, but they were leery of salmon eggs (108062,
7/15, 11:00 AM).

It and Sawmill
Canyon and Bohler Canyon Creeks are controlled by the
Los Angeles Water District, so they will not cut the aqueduct
traversing the hills below these flow rate control dams.

Mining buckets found
at Silver Lake could be used on patented land.

The streams entering
and leaving Silver Lake were recommended. Hooked a small and
large trout multiple times, but they through the hook every time
(109083, 7/16, 9:44 AM).
The best time is mid October. Then Reverse Creek is also good. |
Glass Creek was
tiny, but ponds are
stocked. Mostly off-road folks in campground.
Deadman Creek
falls (cascade) were disappointing. Two large trout near the
base
of the falls refused free salmon eggs and worms I found upstream, but
could not keep little fish from my worm-baited hook. Had to keep one
(108100, 7/16, 1:10 PM).
McGee Creek is
stocked in three places. Caught one fish.

First Big Pine Creek
Falls.

The "Glaser Lodge"
at the base of the
first falls is nothing more that a collection of cabins and a store.
There were lots of mule deer, birds and rodent in the area,
but
prohibition signs were everywhere leaving a very unfriendly feeling.
One even said "Dead End - No Turnaround," yet there was a large
turnaround.

New
behavior: startled flutterby with orange, black and white
upper
wing color and drab lower wing color landed on the flat 45 degree
surface
of a rock, folded its wings and laid againt the rock to blend with it. |

Big Pine Creek
looked good, but no fish in the few eddies that could be found in the
parts of the stream that could be
accessed.

A fellow fisherman
from Riverside
failed to take photo of me here before he continued in the quest for
the lakes. I learned my lesson at Walker Lake, but still managed to
abuse my knees on the return trip. These photos are out of
sequence (108191, 7/17, 11:58 AM).
Returned to Lancaster (108390, 7/17, 2:00 PM) for a total of 1,170
miles. |
