Click Start
Select Settings
Select Control panel - the control panel pops up
Double-click Network - the network window pops up
Select the TCP/IP protocol. If you have many instances of TCP/IP, pay attention:
If you have a modem in your computer - you will recognize this by a green icon with Dial-Up Adapter next to it, and the TCP/IP protocol installed for that modem - you don't have to worry.
Select the other instance of TCP/IP - followed by the type of your network card - and proceed to the next step.
- Click Properties, the TCP/IP Properties panel pops up
- Select the IP-address tab on top
- Select the option Specify an IP address
- Enter your IP address ( you can use thae same used in the XP example)
- Enter the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 in the field Subnet Mask
Take a look to the following text: "How do I share my files?..In Windows 95/98? From the Start menu, select Settings and then Control Panels. Double-click on the Network control panel to open it. (Alternatively, you can right-click on the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop and select Properties.) In the bottom half of the Configuration tab you should see a button that says File and Print Sharing ... Click on it to open a window, check the option I want to give others access to my files., and click OK. The Identification tab of the Network control panel allows you to specify the name your computer will have on the network. If you want user-level rather than share-level access to be granted, click on the Access Control tab. Click the OK button to close the Network control panel. You may have to restart your computer. To share a folder, right click on the folder icon and select Sharing... from the contextual menu. Under the Sharing tab, check the radio button Share As: and make sure a share name is specified. You may choose to give read-only, full, or password-dependent access to the shared item. Make sure to enter a password in the Read-Only Password: text area and another in Full Access Password if you have chosen to give full (write) access. You will need to enter the password(s) twice for verification purposes.
